THE LONDON EDIT: STYLING MEN'S SHIRTS

The Professional (Work): A crisp white formal shirt in poplin cotton, paired with charcoal tailored trousers and black leather Oxford shoes. Add a silk tie in a subtle pattern for complete polish. Timeless, professional, and always appropriate.

Smart Casual: A blue Oxford shirt worn with beige chinos and brown leather loafers. Roll the sleeves once or twice for a relaxed feel. Add a fine-gauge merino jumper over the shoulders for cooler days. Effortless, stylish, and endlessly versatile.

Weekend Casual: A heavyweight white t-shirt tucked into dark wash jeans with a tan leather belt and white trainers. Add a denim jacket or leather jacket for edge. The ultimate off-duty uniform.

Summer Style: A white linen shirt worn untucked with navy chinos and espadrilles or leather sandals. Roll the sleeves to just below the elbow. Breezy, elegant, and perfect for warm weather.

Layered Look (Winter): A checked casual shirt layered under a fine-gauge crew neck jumper with the collar and cuffs showing. Pair with wool trousers and Chelsea boots. Texture, warmth, and style combined.

THE FIT GUIDE: FINDING YOUR PERFECT SHIRT FIT

Slim Fit: Tailored through the chest and waist with a closer fit to the body. Tapered sleeves with narrower armholes. Ideal for leaner builds and those who prefer a modern, streamlined silhouette. Best worn untucked or tucked with slim trousers.

Regular Fit: Classic cut with room through the chest and waist. Straight sleeves with comfortable armholes. The most versatile fit, suitable for most body types. Works well tucked or untucked, with any trouser style.

Tailored Fit: Our middle ground – more shaped than regular fit but not as close as slim fit. Cut with a slightly tapered waist while maintaining comfort through the chest. A flattering choice for many body types.

How a shirt should fit:
- Collar: Should fit snugly – you should be able to slide two fingers between your neck and the collar comfortably.
- Shoulders: The shoulder seam should sit at the edge of your shoulder bone, not dropping down the arm.
- Chest: Fabric should skim the body without pulling or gaping when you move.
- Sleeves: Should end at the base of your thumb when arms are relaxed at your sides. Cuffs should be snug enough to stay in place but allow movement.
- Length: Should be long enough to stay tucked in (for formal shirts) or hit mid-fly when untucked (for casual styles).

THE COLLAR GUIDE: CHOOSING YOUR STYLE

Spread Collar: Modern and versatile. The collar points spread outward, creating a wider space for tie knots. Flatters most face shapes and works well with or without a tie. Our most popular collar for formal shirts.

Button-Down Collar: Classic and casual. The collar points are buttoned to the shirt, keeping them neat and in place. Traditionally associated with Oxford shirts and casual styles. Perfect for smart-casual dressing.

Cutaway Collar: Contemporary and bold. The collar points are cut away at a wider angle, creating a dramatic spread. Best worn with a tie and a larger knot. A favourite for modern professionals.

Traditional Point Collar: Timeless and classic. The collar points sit close together, creating a neat, traditional look. Works well with or without a tie. A safe, elegant choice.

Mandarin Collar: Clean and modern. A stand-up collar without points – no tie required. Perfect for a contemporary, minimalist aesthetic. Often found on casual and linen shirts.

THE FABRIC GUIDE: CHOOSING YOUR SHIRT

Poplin Cotton: Smooth, crisp, and lightweight. Poplin is a plain weave fabric that's breathable and easy to iron. The classic choice for formal shirts and year-round wear.

Egyptian Cotton: Long-staple cotton prized for its softness, strength, and lustre. Our Egyptian cotton shirts offer superior comfort and durability – they improve with wear and washing.

Twill Cotton: Diagonal weave that's softer and more durable than poplin. Twill resists wrinkles and has a subtle texture. Ideal for everyday wear and those who prefer a slightly relaxed feel.

Oxford Cloth: A basket-weave fabric that's soft, textured, and durable. Traditionally used for casual shirts, it's comfortable and ages beautifully. The Oxford shirt gets softer with each wash.

Linen: Breathable, lightweight, and naturally textured. Linen is perfect for warm weather – it wicks moisture and dries quickly. It softens with wear and develops a relaxed, lived-in character.

Jersey Cotton (T-Shirts): Soft, stretchy, and comfortable. Our jersey t-shirts are crafted from premium cotton with a fine knit that holds its shape. Perfect for everyday wear and layering.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: MEN'S SHIRTS & TOPS

How should a formal shirt fit?

A formal shirt should fit snugly at the collar (two fingers fit comfortably), with shoulder seams at the edge of your shoulders. The chest should skim the body without pulling, sleeves should end at the base of your thumb, and the shirt should be long enough to stay tucked in. Our size guide on each product page provides detailed measurements.

What's the difference between slim fit and tailored fit?

Slim fit is our closest cut – tapered through the chest and waist for a streamlined silhouette, best for leaner builds. Tailored fit offers a middle ground – more shaped than regular fit but not as close as slim, with a slightly tapered waist while maintaining chest comfort. Regular fit is our classic cut with room through the chest and waist.

Are your non-iron shirts really non-iron?

Yes. Our non-iron shirts are treated to resist creasing, so they emerge from the dryer with minimal wrinkles – often ready to wear without ironing. For best results, remove promptly from the dryer and hang. A light steam may be needed for a completely crisp finish, but they're designed for low-maintenance grooming.

How do I care for my linen shirt?

Linen is a natural fibre that softens with wear and washing. Machine wash on a gentle cycle at 30 degrees. Remove promptly to minimise creasing. Iron while damp for a crisp finish, or embrace the natural relaxed texture – it's part of linen's charm. Linen shirts are perfect for those who appreciate effortless, lived-in style.

What collar style is best for wearing with a tie?

Spread collars and cutaway collars work beautifully with ties – they create space for the knot and look modern and elegant. Traditional point collars are also excellent with ties, offering a classic, timeless appearance. Button-down collars can be worn with ties but are more casual – best for relaxed settings.

How do I prevent my white shirts from yellowing?

Wash white shirts separately or with lights only. Avoid washing with dark colours. Use a quality detergent and avoid bleach which can actually cause yellowing over time. Ensure shirts are completely dry before storing. Sun-drying can help maintain brightness. For persistent yellowing, professional cleaning can help restore whiteness.

What's the best shirt for a man with a larger neck size?

We recommend our regular or tailored fit shirts, which offer more room through the chest and waist while accommodating larger neck sizes proportionally. Avoid slim fit if you have a larger neck but a slimmer body – look for shirts cut with balanced proportions. Our size chart helps you find the right combination.

Can I wear a casual shirt to work?

Absolutely, depending on your workplace dress code. Oxford shirts, fine-gauge checks, and smart casual styles in quality fabrics work well in many modern offices. Pair with chinos or tailored trousers rather than jeans for a professional appearance. When in doubt, err on the smarter side.

How many shirts should a man own?

A well-rounded wardrobe might include: 3-5 formal shirts (white, blue, and one or two subtle patterns), 3-5 casual shirts (Oxford, checks, linen), and 5-7 t-shirts (white, grey, navy, black, and seasonal colours). This provides variety for all occasions while maintaining quality over quantity.

What is your returns policy on shirts?

We offer free UK returns within 28 days on all full-price shirts. Shirts must be unworn with original tags attached. Given the importance of fit, we encourage you to try on at home – we want you to love your purchase.

SHIRT CARE GUIDE: KEEPING YOUR SHIRTS PRISTINE

Formal & Cotton Shirts: Machine wash according to care label. Remove promptly from washer to minimise creasing. Iron while slightly damp for best results. Store on hangers to maintain shape.

Non-Iron Shirts: Machine wash gentle. Remove promptly from dryer and hang. These shirts are designed for minimal ironing – a quick smooth with your hands often suffices.

Linen Shirts: Machine wash gentle, 30°C. Hang to dry. Iron while damp for a crisp finish, or embrace the natural texture. Linen softens beautifully with each wash.

T-Shirts: Machine wash cold inside out to preserve colour and print. Avoid tumble drying to maintain shape. Fold rather than hang to prevent stretching.

Storing Tips: Always button the top button when hanging to maintain collar shape. Use wooden or padded hangers for best results. For long-term storage, ensure shirts are clean and completely dry.
